The Coast of Havres is a region of Lower Normandy in the department of Handle in France.

Understand

In Normandy, on the west coast of Cotentin, facing the islands of Handle, emerge eight harbors, these indentations on an astonishing coastline, in which the strongest tides in Europe rise twice a day. Most of these natural sites have been preserved and remain in the wild. Going north, from the rocky outcrop of Cap Lihou in Granville, to that of Cap de Carteret, you can see the harbors of La Vanlée , of Regnéville, of Blainville, of Geffosses, of Saint-Germain-sur-Ay, of Surville, of Portbail, and of Carteret.

On this length of coast of more than 70 km, or nearby, many localities are of particular interest, in particular: Granville, corsair city; Coutances, episcopal city; Agon-Coutainville, the seaside resort; Lessay and its abbey, Portbail nestled at the bottom of its harbor; Carteret, a handful of cables from the islands. Norman gastronomy asserts its presence there: artisanal salmon, pre-salted AOC lamb, dairy, camembert with raw milk ladled in, artisanal smoked ham factory, chocolate factories, oysters, bouchot mussels, lobsters, seafood, cider farmer, early vegetables from Lingreville, carrots from Créances, etc.

Remarkable sites and monuments dot this unique coastline in Europe: the submersible causeway, Agon point, Gratot castle, Saint-Gerbold hermitage, Geffosses ornithological observatory, Pirou castle, the body of guard of Saint-Germain, the baptistery of Portbail, the washhouse of Mère Denis, and many others ... So, just a word of advice: whether you are a hiker, whether you want to cross a harbor on foot, or whether your group intends to take one of the tourist circuits by coach, secure the presence of one of the guides of the sector who will accompany you and reveal to you the secrets of this sumptuous maritime land.
