Department of Manche

Some is a department in the French region Normandy and bears the serial number 50. In the north and west the department borders on the English Channel, in the east on the departments Calvados and Orne and in the south to the départements Mayenne and Ille-et-Vilaine.

By plane

  • The airport Cherbourg-Maupertus offers charter flights.
  • Aéroport de Caen-Carpiquet at Caen offers regular services from Lyon and Brighton.
  • Rennes Aeroport offers domestic connections, flights from the British Isles as well as connections Prague and Madrid. For example, the connections are of interest Strasbourg.

By train

IC trains leave seven times a day Paris-St-Lazare over Caen, Carentan (2:40 hours) and Valognes to Cherbourg (3:15 hours). Five pairs of IC trains a day travel between Paris-Montparnasse and Granville (3–3: 20 hours), with a stop in Villedieu-les-Poêles. With the TER (regional express) from Caen you can reach Saint-Lô (approx. 50 minutes) and Coutances (1:15 hours) every hour, and Avranches (1:45 hours) four times a day. From the Breton Rennes there are TER three times a day to Avranches (about an hour), Coutances and Saint-Lô (about two hours)

By bus

Keolis offers from Rennes and from the TGV train station Dol-de-Bretagne buses direct to Mont-Saint-Michel four or three times a day. The departures of the buses are coordinated with the arrival times of the TGV from Paris. It only takes 3:40 hours from Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel.

In the street

The A 84 motorway (Caen – Rennes) runs through this department, and its north is accessed by the N 13 (Caen – Cherbourg) national road, which is in parts of a motorway-like structure. A cross connection between the two - past the prefecture town of Saint-Lô - is provided by the motorway-like N 174.

The European long-distance cycle route runs through the department EuroVelo 4, which leads from Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, along the Normandy coast, through Cherbourg, Saint-Lô and Mont-Saint-Michel, to Brittany. In addition, the French cycle route V40 leads over from Paris Chartres and Alencon to Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët and Mont-Saint-Michel.
