To know
Background
Dartmouth was recognized as a town in 1873. In 1955 the town was permanently connected with Halifax with the Bridge Angus L. Macdonald which led to rapid economic development. Dartmouth then merged with neighboring towns and became a city in 1961. The A. Murray MacKay Bridge opened in 1970.
How to orient yourself
How to get
By car
Dartmouth is connected to the rest of the Canada from provincial freeways 101, 102, 103, 104, 107 and 118. Route 118 connects Dartmouth to 102 which runs between Halifax is Truro, where there is an interconnection with 104 (la Trans-Canada Highway). Continuing west on 204 you reach the border with New Brunswick, then the Maine, Quebec, or the Prince Edward Island. From the New Brunswick border to Dartmouth it takes about 2 hours and there is a toll of $ 4.50 per Cobequid pass.
A ferry service to Sydney connect the Nova Scotia with Newfoundland. During the summer a fast ferry service connects Yarmouth (3 hours from Halifax) with Bar Harbor in Maine. Freeways 107 and 104 eventually connect Dartmouth to Antigonish.
