Deià is a small town in northwest of Mallorca.

Deiá is considered that Mallorca's artist village, as many artists have settled here since the beginning of the 20th century. The most famous guests and temporary residents included the painters Santiago Rusiñol, Pablo Picasso, Ulrich Leman, Robert von Ranke-Graves and Mati Klarwein, the actors Peter Ustinov, Ava Gardner, Michael Douglas and Pierce Brosnan, the musicians Daevid Allen, Kevin Ayers, the composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and the writer Anaïs Nin, but also the Austrian Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Habsburg-Lothringen.

By bus

The 210 bus (Palma – Valldemossa – Deià – Port de Sóller) stops here every two hours (only four times a day on Sundays). It takes three quarters of an hour from Palma (single trip for € 2.85), half an hour from (Port de) Sóller and 15 minutes from Valldemossa. Current timetable online

In the street

Deià is on the well-developed, but rather curvy MA-10 between Valldemossa and Sóller. From Palma it is approx. 30 km, the journey takes 40 minutes on average. To do this, first follow the MA-1110 towards Valldemossa, from where Deià is signposted.

On foot

Deià is on the GR 221 long-distance hiking trail ("Ruta de Pedra en Sec - route of the dry stone walls"), which extends over nine stages from Port d ’Andratx along the west coast and through the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana to Pollença leads. The hostel is specially designated for hikers (Refugi) Can Boi.

  • Son Marroig Manor and Museum. Magnificent property of the former Austrian Archduke Ludwig Salvator (1847–1915), who spent a large part of his life in the Balearic Islands. Small garden and spectacular views. There is historical furniture, ceramics and Mallorcan paintings that the nobleman collected. Almost 4 km west of Deià on the MA-10 towards Valldemossa. Also accessible by bus (bus stop Foradada).
