Administratively it is the Dong Bac region is divided into the following provinces:
- Bắc Giang
- Bắc Kạn
- Cao Bang
- Ha Giang
- Lang Son
- Lao Cai
- Phu Tho
- Quang Ninh
- Thai Nguyen
- Tuyen Quang
- Yen Bai
Urban centers
- Lang Son - Capital of the province of the same name, Lang Son is a border town near the crossing of the "Gate of Friendship" (You Yi Guan in Chinese) crossed by international trains on the line Hanoi - Nanning (province Chinese of Guangxi).
- Sa Pa - Health resort in the province of Lao Cai, appreciated by the French in colonial times, Sa Pa is well worth a stop for its extraordinary mountain landscapes.
Other destinations
- Ha Long Bay - Due to its exceptional scenic interest, Ha Long Bay was included in the list of World Heritage Sites in 1999 and consequently constitutes one of the major tourist destinations in the country in general and in the province of Quang Ninh in particular.
- Ba Be National Park - Established to protect the lake of the same name and the dense forests surrounding it in the Bac Kan province.
