To go

By train

Dresden [1] has several stations, all located on the same line.

The train station Hauptbahnhof allows links to Berlin, Hamburg, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna and Prague. A new dome signed Sir Norman Foster is nearing completion. Travelers can find more information on timetables and possible connections on the site Bahn.de.

The train station Dresden-Neustadt is the second of Dresden's two main train stations. Trains connect it to Frankfurt-am-Main and Breslau.

By plane

The airport Dresden Klotzsche is an international airport with around 1.8 million passengers per year, most of them vacationing with charter companies. The airport is located approximately 9 kilometers northeast of the city, and can be reached by bus, tram or S-Bahn. Directly below the terminal is a train station, connecting the city center in less than half an hour. Frequent connections (all 30 min about). The precise prices and timetables are available on the website of Dresden transport.

By car

Highway from Berlin.National route since Prague.

By bus

Eurolines operates a line from Paris to Dresden and another from London to Dresden (the latter including a stop in Lille). Several companies offer buses from Berlin and its airports (stops in Dresden Neustadt Schelssiger Platz and HbF).

By bike

A cycle path along the Elbe reaches the Czech border to the south-east and… Hamburg in the other direction!

Circulate

The city is very well served by an excellent network of trams, half of the lines running 24 h/ 24. Also many bus lines, some also operating 24 h/24.

Cost of the public transport ticket: .

Bus

Good service, relatively high frequencies.

Trams (Straßenbahn)

About fifteen lines.

Bike

Dresden being in Germany, pedestrians and motorists have great respect for cyclists. However, half a century of communism has not improved the often catastrophic state of the streets. Winter, snow, ice and sand deposited over it make it difficult for cyclists to travel.

Walking

The city is not very large, it is possible to visit it on foot, especially the historic center, which is relatively small.

Have a drink

Dresden has the particularity of having many Studentclubs (bars or small discotheques managed by students) at very low prices.

The Neustadt (new town), north of the Elbe, is full of bistros, bars and cafes, all in different styles. Usually no closing time, tradition has it that we close when the last customer leaves the bar!

Some bars (list far from exhaustive!):

  • El Perro Borracho : Located in the city's Kunsthofpassage, a succession of decorated courtyards in the heart of Neustadt, this Spanish bar will appeal to lovers of the Iberian Peninsula as much as anyone else. Alaustraße 70 - 01099 Dresden. Phone. : 49-351-8036723.
  • Gutzkow Club : the city's Erasmus bar, crowded with foreign students every Thursday evening. Located southeast of the station: Gutzkowstraße 29-33 - 01069 Dresden.
