Erftstadt is a city made up of a number of places on the Erft. It belongs to the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia.

background

Erftstadt was only created in 1969 through the amalgamation of its individual districts. There is therefore no actual center of Erftstadt, but each of the districts has its own town center.

  • Erftstadt is located in the Rhineland Nature Park, which is characterized by lignite opencast mining (recultivation)
  • Erftstadt is not far from the metropolis Cologne, therefore the landscapes are popular as a local recreation area. Bathing lakes are often only accessible with admission and parking fee.

Districts

Ahrem, Blessem and Frauenthal, Bliesheim, Borr and Scheuren, Dirmerzheim, Erp, Friesheim, Gymnich and Mellerhöfe, Herrig, Kierdorf, Köttingen, Lechenich and Konradsheim, Liblar, Niederberg

By train

1 Erftstadt stationErftstadt station in the Wikipedia encyclopediaErftstadt train station (Q15107159) in the Wikidata database is located in the Liblar district and is on the railway line CologneEuskirchen (Eifel route). A regional express from Cologne and Trier and a regional train from Cologne and Kall stop here every hour. From the nearest long-distance train station, Köln Hbf, it is a good 20 minutes drive; from Euskirchen 15 minutes, from Trier 2:40 hours

From Bonn you can change trains in Hürth-Kalscheuren (RB) or Köln-Süd (RE) and it takes around 40 minutes.

Unfortunately, there is no train line to Erftstadt from nearby Düren, so paradoxically the fastest connection to Erftstadt train station is via Cologne.

If you don't want to go to the district of Liblar, but rather to Kierdorf, Köttingen or Gymnich, it can be cheaper to take the train to 2 Kerpen-HorremKerpen-Horrem in the encyclopedia WikipediaKerpen-Horrem in the media directory Wikimedia CommonsKerpen-Horrem (Q800933) in the Wikidata database (or Sindorf) and change there to the bus (see below). The same applies if you want to go to the south of Erftstadt (Friesheim, Niederberg, Borr): It can be cheaper here in 3 EuskirchenEuskirchen in the encyclopedia WikipediaEuskirchen in the media directory Wikimedia CommonsEuskirchen (Q800745) in the Wikidata database to switch to the bus.

By bus

From Kerpen-Horrem there is an hourly bus line 955 to Erftstadt-Kierdorf, -Köttingen and -Liblar (travel time 25-40 minutes) and line 920 via Sindorf to Erftstadt-Gymnich, -Dirmersheim, -Konradsheim, -Lechenich and -Bliesheim (travel time 30 -60 minutes). In Horrem it is possible to change from the Erftbahn from Grevenbroich and Bergheim as well as from trains from Aachen and Düren.

Bus line 990 runs every hour from Brühl-Mitte to Erftstadt-Liblar (travel time 20–40 minutes), -Blessem, -Lechenich (50-55 minutes) and -Herrig (just under an hour). From Euskirchen you can also take line 807 directly to Erftstadt-Niederberg (journey time from Euskirchen train station 25 minutes), -Borr, -Friesheim (30-35 minutes), -Ahrem, -Lechenich (40-55 minutes) and -Liblar. From Euskirchen to Liblar, however, you can get much faster by train (15 minutes).
