The airport from the air

background

The airport LaGuardia Airport is a comparatively small airport with a long history that serves a large proportion of domestic flights from New York. For example, it is the preferred airport for shuttle flights to Boston or Washington D.C.. The main airlines are American Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

getting there

By bus

The Arrival / departure is relatively easy to take the bus line M60. This stops at all terminals and provides connections to the Astoria N and W trains and it crosses Manhattan on 125th Street. It also offers many other good transfer options within the city. A ticket costs USD 2.75 (as of 2014), but you cannot pay with bills, only with coins! A money exchange machine is located in the airport building. If you are planning to stay in New York for a few days, it is advisable to buy a MetroCard at the airport (1 USD card fee) to use the buses and trains in New York. One trip costs 2.50 USD when using the MetroCard (i.e. from the fourth trip you save compared to single tickets).

Another alternative are shuttle buses to Manhattan. A ride costs around USD 12 (as of June 2007). Buses run every 10-15 minutes and stop at Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station. There are also buses going one way Hudson Valley and long Island as well as a limousine service.

In the street

Taxis are of course also available at the airport. A trip to Manhattan costs around USD 20-30. It can't hurt to ask the driver if they're driving on 59th Street (officially Queensboro Bridge). This is usually the shortest way and you don't have to pay extra fees again as with other bridges.
