As Hudson Valley is the region around the lower reaches of the Hudson River in US- federal state new York designated. The region is immediately north of New York City and forms the transition from "Downstate New York" and "Upstate New York".
The Hudson Valley is extremely picturesque in many sections, which has earned the river the name "Rhine of America".

The western parts of Rockland County and Orange County are the Shawangunk Ridge attributable to the western parts of Ulster County and Greene County belong to the Catskill Mountains.

By plane
There are two airports in the region that are regularly served by scheduled flights:
- Westchester County Airport (HPN) in White Plains
- Stewart International Airport (SWF) in Newburgh
The closest airports to those from Europe directly can be flown to are the John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) in New York City and Newark Liberty Airport (EWR) in Newark (New Jersey).
By train
Amtrak- Long-distance trains en route between New York and Penn Station Albany (and sometimes further towards Montreal, Buffalo, Toronto or Chicago) drive almost every hour through the Hudson Valley and stop in Yonkers, Croton-Harmon (Westchester County), Poughkeepsie, Rhinecliff (Dutchess County), Hudson (Columbia County). For example, the drive from New York City to Poughkeepsie takes approximately 1½ hours and from Albany to Poughkeepsie approximately 1 hour.
In local transport the Metro-North Railroad drives on the east side of the Hudson Hudson Line from New York's Grand Central Station via Yonkers, Tarrytown and Peekskill in Westchester County to Poughkeepsie.

Tourist Attractions
- 1 Bear Mountain Bridge, between Cortlandt and Stony Point. The 687 meter long and 115 meter high suspension bridge was built in 1923–24. It was the first fixed crossing of the Hudson River south of Albany.
- There are a multitude of historical sights in and around Sleepy Hollow, the setting of Washington Irving's horror story The legend of the sleepy ravine. These include the 17th century Philipsburg Manor House, the neo-colonial Rockefeller estate Kykuit, the cemetery with the graves of many important Americans and the Stone Barns organic farm.
- Shaker Museum Mount Lebanon, Shaker Road, New Lebanon (Near Jct. 20/22). Museum with exhibitions that tell about the life of the Shaker, a Protestant sect that lived here in the mid-19th century.
