Ghazaouet is a city ofAlgeria.

Understand

In Roman times, the town was called Ad Fratres because of two rocks of 25 m near the coast. In 1846, during colonization, the city was named Nemours, in homage to Louis d'Orléans, Duke of Nemours, and was part of the department of Oran, then of the department of Tlemcen. After independence, it took the name of Ghazaouet. The fishing port of Ghazaouet was for a long time the first in Algeria, famous throughout the country for its sardines and anchovies. Until independence, the city housed the famous “Papa Falcone” canneries. The city's port provides daily maritime connection with Almería (Spain) for the transport of goods and passengers.
