The province Gilan (Persian: استان گیلان) is a province in the north of Iran.

The province borders the Caspian Sea to the north and east, as well as the provinces Ardabil (West), Zanjan (Southwest), Qazvin (South) and Māzandarān (Southeast). There is also a narrow border strip Azerbaijan.

In the street

From the north: Europastraße 119 (E119) leads from the north Baku (long-term Moscow) along the coast to the Azerbaijani-Iranian border in Astara. From there it goes - initially further along the coast - via highway 49 into the province to the capital.

From the south: Via Autobahn 1 from Qazvin across the provincial border until shortly before Rasht. Then continue on highway 49 into the province to the capital.

The road network is dominated by the two country roads 22 and 49, with the exception of Autobahn 1, which runs parallel to 49.
