Gyumri (egl. Gyumri, Armenian Գյումրի) is the second largest city Armenia and capital of the province of Shirak. Previously the city was also under the name Leninakan and Alexandropol known.

The place where the city rises has been inhabited since about the 5th century BC.

The present city was founded in 1837 in the area of ​​a Russian fortress. It was called Alexandropol until 1924, then Leninakan until 1991.

The city was badly affected by the earthquake on December 7, 1988.

By plane

The city can be reached via Shirak Airport (IATA: LWN), which is located about 5 kilometers from the city center.

By train
