Graciosa is the northernmost island in the central group of the Azores. With an area of ​​almost 61 km², it is the second smallest island in the Azores. The roughly oval island has a length of 10 km and a width of 7 km. The distance to the island of Terceira is 72 km, that to the island São Jorge 56 km. The highest point is the Caldeira with 402 m and the population is around 4,400.

The island has been a biosphere reserve since 2007.
