The Great Northern Peninsula, also called the viking peninsula or the northern peninsula, is a peninsula ofWest Island of Newfoundland to Canada.
Understand
The Great Northern Peninsula is sparsely populated and the population is declining. It extends north of Gros Morne National Park up to L'Anse aux Meadows, a national historic site which is an ancient Viking settlement located at the far end of the peninsula. The latter is part of the list of Unesco World Heritage. The peninsula includes a few small fishing villages and large open spaces.
From time to time, polar bears arrive on the peninsula by crossing the frozen water from the Labrador. If they are seen or seen on their tracks, report their presence to the authorities at Pistolet Bay Provincial Park so that they can be captured alive and returned to Labrador.
Weather
Weather conditions can be difficult, especially in winter, due to the rugged terrain and direct exposure to the prevailing westerly winds from the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
