Groenlo is a city in the municipality East Gelre, located in the east of the back corner, in the Dutch province Gelderland.

Arrive

By car

Groenlo is located on the N18 and N319. The three exits to/from the N18 are:

  • Groenlo-North (Eibergseweg).
  • Groenlo-south (Winterswijkseweg).
  • Groenlo-northeast (exit Tuincentrum).

Via the N319 you can turn off at:

  • Groenlo-west (Ruurloseweg)
  • Groenlo-southeast (Oude Winterswijkseweg)

Groenlo has a large parking lot in the center of the city: "De Wheme" (closed on Friday afternoon due to the market). There are also parking spaces, especially along and just outside the canals and at the Albert Heijn.

By bus

There are three bus lines that serve Groenlo.

By train

The municipality of East Gelre has 1 train station (Station Lichtenvoorde-Groenlo) in the centrally located darling. Here there is a direct connection to buses to Groenlo and Lichtenvoorde, where one arrives within minutes. Public transport, both train and bus, is provided by Arriva.

The center of Grolle offers a variety of shops. These can mainly be found in and around Beltrumsestraat, Lievelderstraat, Kevelderstraat and Markt.

Market

The market in Groenlo takes place every Friday afternoon in the parking lot 'De Wheme'. This market offers a good range, especially dairy (cheese), vegetables, fruit and fish. There are also stalls with specialties.

Nearby destinations

There are various nature reserves in the municipality of East Gelre and surrounding areas in the Achterhoek and Germany. In more questioning is the Question Derveen, which can be visited by excursion. The bird and nature reserve Zwillbrockerveen just across the German border is free to visit.
