The town Gualeguaychú lies in the east Argentina and is the third largest city in the province Entre RíosIt is best known for the carnival, which is similar to that of Rio de Janeiro and its climax in February in Corsodromo, a specially built stadium. But the beaches in the area also make the city attractive to visitors.

background

Gualeguaychú was founded in 1783 by the then viceroy Juan José de Vértiz to create a settlement center for the previously scattered rural population. Between 1820 and 1860, the area around the city was one of the centers of conflict between Unitarians and Federalists and also in conflict with Brazil Uruguay. After the bloody riots were over, there was a wave of immigration mainly from Europeans of different nationalities, including many Germans and Italians. The place grew into a prosperous city.

Today the city is in the headlines above all as the seat of a powerful farmers' association, which has repeatedly taken the highway in protest against increases in export taxes in 2008 and 2009 Ruta 14 blocked, and a radical ecological protest movement against paper mills in Uruguay Fray Bentos (30 km east of the city), who did the same thing several times from 2007, sometimes for months, with the bridge to Uruguay.

The city is located a little off the Uruguay River in a partly wooded, partly agricultural area (especially soy cultivation).

The RN 14 is tarred and is currently being expanded into a four-lane expressway. With Rosario and Santa Fe or.
