Entre Ríos - Entre Ríos

Entre Ríos Province

The province Entre Ríos is the southern part of Mesopotamia, the land between the Paraná and Uruguay rivers. It is a relatively densely populated, agricultural, flat area with a few ranges of hills, the Cuchillas.

Regions

Even if the region as a whole is fairly uniform, the banks of the Paraná and Uruguay rivers differ considerably. While you can find many islands and largely meadowland on Paraná, the banks of Uruguay are densely forested and characterized by many bathing beaches.

places

  • Paraná, 250,000 inhabitants, capital of the Entre Ríos province, a green city with many colonial buildings
  • Concordia, 140,000 inhabitants, industrial city in the northeast of the province.
  • Gualeguaychú, 100,000 inhabitants, located in the southeast on the Río Uruguay, a carnival stronghold with a beautiful shore area and many beaches
  • Concepción del Uruguay, 70,000 inhabitants, important port city on the Río Uruguay
  • Villaguay, 50,000 inhabitants, agricultural city in the south of the province
  • Victoria, 40,000 inhabitants, city on a tributary of the Río Paraná with a very traditional carnival

Other goals

  • El Palmar National Park. Palm forest on the Río Uruguay with beautiful beaches and diverse vegetation.

background

The rolling hills of Entre Ríos are one of the "granaries" of Argentina. Various types of grain are grown and cattle is raised. The cities on the rivers, which offer good bathing opportunities, are particularly attractive for travelers.

The area is known for the carnival, which is similar to that in Brazil is and of the Murgas dominated by drum troops playing African-influenced rhythms to which scantily clad dancers dance. Capital of Carnival is Gualeguaychú, but the carnival in the other cities is often more attractive because of its originality.

language

The region's Spanish is similar to "Standard Argentine" but has also captured a few Guaraní words. Guaraní itself was often spoken by the rural population in the past, but is now almost extinct.

getting there

Two bridges and a tunnel connect the previously isolated Entre Ríos with the rest of Argentina:

A variety of Fines drive to the province from all areas. Airports are available in Paraná and Concordia. The train Buenos Aires-Posadas also runs through the province of Entre Ríos.

mobility

In Entre Ríos there are not only good bus connections between the individual cities, but also some train lines again for a few years.

Tourist Attractions

  • Colonial buildings, in Paraná.
  • Colonies of the Volga Germans, at Paraná.

activities

The rivers in the area are ideal for swimming, especially the Río Uruguay, which is lined with sandy beaches. You can also go hiking in the El Palmar National Park.

kitchen

Since many cities were shaped by Central European immigrants, you can often get German, Swiss and Austrian specialties. Otherwise there are few regions in Argentina where as much "asado" is eaten as in Entre Ríos.

nightlife

Nightlife is very lively even in small towns, especially at Carnival time. Otherwise, the best addresses can be found in Paraná and Concordia.

security

There are no special security risks in the region. Bathing in the rivers is safe.

climate

The climate is subtropical to warm temperate and has very warm summers (32 ° C average in Paraná) and mild winters (average 17 ° C). The summer is a little more humid than the winter. You can swim in the rivers from November to the end of April.

trips

A detour to Uruguay recommended if you are in the region - nowhere else is it so easy to get across the border and the river ports on the other side are very attractive. Otherwise the region is good for a stopover to the Corrientes Marshes and ins Highlands of Misiones.
