La Pampa is a province in the center Argentina. As the name suggests, it lies in the Pampas-Level, and the German association is correct - the province is extremely sparsely populated.
Regions
While the eastern part belongs to the humid pampas and is used intensively for agriculture, the western part is dry and belongs to Pampa Seca, a barren steppe landscape with salt lakes and thorn bush vegetation.
places
- Santa Rosa, 110,000 inhabitants, the capital
- General Pico, 50,000 inhabitants, agricultural center in the east
- General Acha, 15,000 inhabitants, industrial city in the central south
- 25 de Mayo, 10,000 inhabitants, only town of importance in the west on the Río Colorado
Other goals
- Lihuel Calel National Park (or Lihué Calel), a low, barren mountain range in the south of the province with untouched nature and cave paintings. Ideal stopover on the way from Buenos Aires to the South Andes.
- Parque Luro, Nature reserve 30 km south of Santa Rosa, where birds and deer can be observed. One of the few areas to still experience the original pampa landscape.
background
La Pampa is one of the most sparsely populated provinces in Argentina. In the north-west and south, the plain is interrupted by low mountain ranges, which, however, do not reach great heights (a maximum of 1,100 m on the border with Mendoza).
In addition to the Lihuel Calel National Park, the big game hunting opportunities that attract some Argentines and foreigners to this deserted province are particularly interesting for tourists. Whether this tourism is environmentally friendly or not is controversial, it has already been criticized by nature conservationists that the control of the activities is too lax.
But even without hunting there is a lot to discover: huge salt lakes and salt deserts, deserted nature reserves and large swamp areas.

mobility
In the east, almost all places are connected by buses, in the west only those on the highways and served by the long-haul routes.

La Pampa is likely to be one of the least criminal areas in Argentina. Natural disasters are also rare in the region.
climate
The climate is generally temperate and mostly very sunny. Precipitation decreases continuously from east to west until the extreme west is almost deserted. Summers are often very hot (40 ° C is often reached) and winters are relatively mild, but with cold nights and frequent frosts.
