Guebwiller (Ger .: Gebweiler, els .: Gawill'r) is one french City in the department Haut-Rhin, in the Alsace at the Alsatian Wine Route (Route des Vins d'Alsace).
background
It is the capital of the arrondissement of Guebwiller and the administrative seat of the canton of the same name.
The city is located in the Lauchtal at the confluence of the Lauch and Ill rivers.
The city emerged from a Meierhof of the Murbach Abbey, built in the 8th century. Over time, it became the secular center of the abbey that ruled the city until the Revolution.

- 1 Église Saint-Léger, place Saint-Léger. The church of St. Leodegar, with its construction in the 12th – 13th centuries. Century started. The facade and interior are of noble splendor and power. The Gothic choir dates from the 14th century and the two outer aisles from the 16th century. · photos.
- 2 Notre Dame, place Jeanne-d'Arc. Church of Our Lady, built between 1760 and 1785. It is the largest classical church in Alsace. The high relief of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (1783) is impressive above the altar. Inside there is an important organ by Cavaillé-Coll-Mutin from 1908.
- Dominican Church. The former monastery in the Gothic style.
