Haut-Rhin department

The department Haut-Rhin (Upper Alsace) with the serial number 68 is the southern part of the French region Alsace (Alsace). It borders the département in the north Bas-Rhin, in the east, across the Rhine Germany (Baden-Wuerttemberg), in the south to the Switzerland (Cantons Basel city, Basel-Country, Solothurn and law, in the southwest to the department Territoire de Belfort as well as in the west to the département Vosges.

  • The fried carp carpe frite, is the culinary specialty of the Sundgau. The carp is served as fillet, cut into thick slices or immediately deboned. Before it gets into the fat, it is turned in semolina, sesame or poppy seeds. Around 30 innkeepers have chosen Routes de la Carpe Frite (Streets of the Baked Carp) have come together to promote and preserve this local tradition.
