Ensisheim is a french City in the department Haut-Rhin, in the Alsace.
background
Politically, the municipality belongs to the arrondissement Guebwiller and is the administrative seat of the canton Ensisheim.
The small town on the Ill was the capital and administrative center of the Austro-Habsburg possessions of Upper Alsace from 1135 until the end of the Thirty Years War.
Potash mining began here at the beginning of the 20th century.

- Hotel de Ville. The town hall was the former seat of the Austrian administration. Its rich facade decoration is kept in the style of the Renaissance. That is in him too Museum of the Regency housed.

- Écomusée de Haute-Alsace. The Upper Alsatian Open-Air Museum is located around 4 kilometers outside the village of Ungerheim. It is France's largest open-air museum. Over 70 traditional half-timbered houses are shown on an area of 15 hectares. All come from the Upper Rhine Plain or the Sundgau. In some buildings the old handicraft is shown, so almost all professions are shown, as they were important for a real village community in the past. In building 49 there is an extensive collection of wooden models of the various roof structures in buildings.Open: July - August daily 9.30 a.m. - 7 p.m., April - June September 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., November - March 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
