the Haitian creole is an official language in Haiti alongside French. It is the most widely spoken language in the country. It is a French-based Creole and influenced by African languages such as Wolof, the fon, the'ewe, the kikongo, the yoruba and theigbo. Several speakers, especially those who are educated, are bilingual and also speak French. Haitian Creole is little used in literature, but is used in local media.
