Hebei (Chinese: ; pinyin: Héběi) is a province in the north China. The simplified name of Hebei was "冀", after the name of Ji Province during the Han Dynasty, which included the area of what is now southern Hebei. The name Hebei refers to the province located north of the Yellow River.
In 1928, the Chinese government changed the name of Zhili province to Hebei. Beijing and Tianjin were later separated from Hebei. Hebei is bordered by Liaoning to the northeast, Inner Mongolia to the north, Shanxi to the west, Henan to the south, and Shandong to the southeast. Bohai is located in the east of the province. A small part of Hebei is separated from the rest of the province, between Beijing and Tianjin.
