Colgate University. The private Colgate University is considered one of the best liberal arts colleges in the USA. The university, established in 1819, offers 55 subjects, almost all of them Undergraduates (Bachelor students) are addressed. The facility is named after the British immigrant William Colgate (1783-1857), who later made himself useful as one of the university's curators with the wealth he owed to his soap company, which he founded in 1806. The Colgate University campus is located on the southern edge of Hamilton (Situation map). Once you have parked your car, you walk around the campus, but you may have to overcome a slight incline. Here are some interesting stops:
  • Those who walk from the town center to the campus make the best use of it Willow Path, a willow-lined romantic path that starts at Broad St and ends just before the library. To the west of it lies Taylor Lake.
  • Case-Geyer Library, 10 College St, between College St and Alumni Rd. The university library. This is also in the building Hieber Cafe, where hot drinks and small dishes are offered.
  • James B. Colgate Hall, Admission building; 13 Oak Dr, corner of Alumni Rd. Contact point for visitors. Parking facilities.
  • The oldest surviving building is the one erected in 1884 Hascall Hall ("Old Biology Hall"; in the middle of the long lawn just south of Academic Dr), where biology was previously taught. The molecular biologist Oswald Avery was the first to prove here in 1944 that the genetic information is transported via the DNA.
  • Frank Dining Hall, at the south end of Alumni Rd. The cafeteria. Closed from mid-May to mid-June. The dormitories (dorms) East and West of the Dining Hall are for Freshmen (First year students) reserved.
