background

Hammamet is located at the northern end of Hammamet Bay, which stretches for about 20 km. The old town lies on a small peninsula and has in the north, v. a. but in the south an extensive sandy beach zone. In the city there is a heavily restored fortress right at the harbor that surrounds the old town. The cityscape is strongly shaped by tourism.

About 10 km south of the city, the new tourist center Hammamet-Yasmine has been built in recent years, which looks very commercial and even has an ice rink in addition to a marina. The "New Medina" is 100% artificial and only a weak copy of the original.
