The Hogenakkal Falls are waterfalls in Tamil Nadu on the border to Karnataka.

The river splits at the Hogenakkal Falls Kaveri into several arms that plunge into the depths and then reunite. A small village has emerged there that lives mainly from tourism with many accommodations and a small bus station. Almost all of the visitors are Indian. It can get crowded on weekends when day trippers from Bangalore come here to relax. The Kaveri has water all year round, but the falls are most impressive in the monsoons or shortly thereafter.

There is no rail connection.

By bus

The village of Hogenakkal is approached from different directions, e.g. from the district capital Dharmapuri and Kanakapura in Karnataka with several buses per day. The best connection is to Dharmapuri.

In the street

With the boat

There is a coracle ferry to Marukottai village on the west side of the river (Karnataka). To do this, you have to enter the waterfall area over the suspension bridge and stay south. Marukottai is accessed with a street. Maybe there are buses.

Tourist Attractions

The Sights are the Hogenakkal Falls. There is an entrance fee and there are opening times. You can hike across the islets and cross a pedestrian suspension bridge. Fishermen stand on the rocks or in their coracles and cast nets.

There is also a rather uninteresting aquarium and a crocodile zoo.

The specialty of the place are different fish from the kaveri, which are pickled in red marinade and are grilled. There are numerous small fish restaurants and food stalls.
