The High wall is a nature park in Lower Austria Industrial district, about 50 km south-southwest of Vienna and 20 km west of Wiener Neustadt. The villages are located at the foot of a mountain plateau about 900 to 1000 meters high, which faces southeast to the valley basin New world drops off steeply, which is separated from the Vienna basin by the Fischau foothills. The proud, eponymous rock faces of the Hohe Wand Nature Park are visible from afar and a popular excursion destination for the Viennese urban population. The Hohe Wand is part of the Viennese local mountains considered.
background
The Hohe Wand Nature Park includes the mountain plateau above the rock face. The Hohe Wand community consists of four small villages (Stollhof, Maiersdorf, Gaaden and Netting) that are located below the rock face in the Neue Welt basin.
getting there
By plane
The nearest commercial airport is Vienna-Schwechat, which offers flight connections all over the world.
By train
With the Südbahn from Vienna or Graz / Villach long-distance trains every hour to Wiener Neustadt. From there, take the 7845 bus from the M. Partsch bus company (check the timetable) to Maiersdorf, Stollhof, Gaaden, Felbring and Netting, and to the toll station.
With the Schneebergbahn to Grünbach or with the Piestingtalbahn to Waldegg and from there via hiking trails to the high plateau (approx. 2-3 hours ascent).
In the street
From Vienna or Graz you drive on the autobahn A2 to Wiener Neustadt West and then continue on the B26 direction Puchberg am Schneeberg to Weikersdorf. Turn right here towards Winzendorf. Continue on state roads via Winzendorf, Emmerberg (here turn left towards Gaaden, Stollhof), Gaaden to Hohen Wand.
A toll road to the plateau begins between the villages of Meiersdorf and Gaaden. A road usage fee of 2 euros (car) is only collected on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays; use is free during the week.
fees
Admission to the nature park costs (as of 8/17) EUR 1.80 (adults) or EUR 1 (children 3-17 years). The entrance fee is collected on weekends and public holidays at the toll station near Gaaden together with the road toll (2 euros / car). During the week - or if you don't come by car - the entrance fee can be paid at the information center at the Hohe Kanzel or in various huts. It is not strictly controlled whether you have actually bought an entrance ticket. It's a system that works on an honorary basis. There are also donation boxes at the beginning of hiking trails or at lookout points, where you can insert the entrance fee - of course you won't get an entrance ticket there.
mobility
On the plateau you can use some signposted access roads to the huts by car. Otherwise, numerous hiking trails of all lengths and levels of difficulty are signposted.
