Highland is an area in the northeast of the Dutch province Groningen. The area borders the mudflats to the north and the region to the west Lauwersland.

- The North Groninger Antiques & Curiosities Route, a route along nine shops, farms and attics spread over eight villages in the north of Groningen (Hoogeland and Lauwersland), full of brocante, antiques, curiosities and rarities [1]. Please note: the different locations may have different opening times!
- Visit the industrial city and former port Delfzijl, and visit, for example, the Steenfabriek Fivelmonde or the Muzeeaquarium. Motorcycle enthusiasts can attend the annual Harley Day, and boat enthusiasts can indulge in the annual harbor festival or the five-yearly large-scale maritime event Delfsail.

To do
- mudflat hiking accompanied by a guide [4]. Short trips across the mudflats as well as complete walks to a Wadden island are possible. Make sure you wear clothes that can get dirty!
- Stepping along the mudflats, Recreational farm De Waddenhoeve, Middendijk 2 9988 TC Noordpolderzijl, telephone: 06-293 777 63. From a Groningen farm in a deserted part of Noordpolder you can follow a scooter route along the mudflats (6, 9 or 16 km). A route through the Warffumerbos, where part of the route is taken by canoe, is also possible. Costs between 5 and 15 euros, depending on the chosen activity.
To buy
Every village around the Oldambtmeer has a local supermarket, a bakery and a butcher. Buy a Groningen hard bread from the local bakery (for example, top it with cheese), or get a Groningen clove sausage from the local butcher.
