Lauwersland - Lauwersland

Lauwersland is an area in the northwest of the Dutch province Groningen. The area borders on the mudflats to the north and Friesland to the west.

Lauwersland is an area where various organizations work closely together in the fields of recreation, art and culture and entrepreneurship. The name Lauwersland covers several municipalities in Groningen and Friesland that border on the former Lauwerszee (plotted in on May 23, 1969). The name Lauwersland that is now used has no cultural-historical value and is used by the aforementioned organizations to indicate the area to be exploited. .

Travel around

  • The North Groninger Antiques & Curiosities Route, a route along nine shops, farms and attics spread over eight villages in the north of Groningen (Highland and Lauwersland), full of brocante, antiques, curiosities and rarities [1]. Please note: the different locations may have different opening times!
  • Groningen motorway[2], a route description along villages and hamlets of the Lauwersland (and a piece Highland).

To look at

  • The village of Eenrum[3]
  • Seal sanctuary Pieterburen[4], shelter for sick and weakened young seals from the Wadden Sea. Entrance to the visitor center is 4.50 euros p.p.
  • Domies then, or "the pastor's garden" [5], is the botanical garden at the Petruskerk in Pieterburen and also the actual starting point of the Pieterpad.
  • Lauwersmeer National Park[6] managed by Staatsbosbeheer. The national park can be visited by boat, but walks with a ranger are also possible.

To do

  • mudflat hiking accompanied by a guide. Short trips across the mudflats as well as complete walks to a Wadden island are possible. Make sure you wear clothes that can get dirty!

  • Sara's Pancake House, Molenstraat 1, Eenrum [7]. Pancake house in the former harbor of the village of Eenrum. Open on Saturdays and Sundays, in high season also on Wed, Thurs & Fri.
  • Abrahams Mustard Factory, Molenstraat 5, Eenrum [8]. Restaurant in an atmospheric old farm, which is half furnished as a museum dedicated to the making of mustard. With friendly service and perhaps the best spare ribs in the Netherlands. Open from Tuesday to Sunday.
