Hornopirén is a small port town in the Región de los Lagos in Chile. The city is in the northern section of the Carretera Austral just not far from Puerto Montt. Near the city is the Hornopirén volcano and the Hornopirén National Park. This region and the Pumalín Park in the south are popular excursion and hiking destinations.

By bus

There are bus connections along the several times a day Carretera Austral to Puerto Montt in the north and Chaitén or Caleta Gonzalo in the south.

In the street

Hornopirén is 100 km south of Puerto Montt at the Carretera Austral. To the south, a gap in the road is bridged with a ferry connection.

By boat

There is a direct ferry connection to Caleta Gonzalo. However, it is common to drive south via the ferry to Leptepu. (Duration 3:45; passenger CLP 5,350; vehicles cost extra; bikes free). From there you can take the ferry to Caleta Gonzalo after 10 km by road (free of charge).
