Hua Hin is a seaside resort popular with the Thais and also the summer residence of the Thai king. Although there are bars and discos for night owls here too, it is a bit more tranquil than in other popular holiday and seaside resorts in the country.

By train

The train is one of the easiest ways to get to Hua Hin. The station, with its historic station building already a postcard motif, is located in the center of the city. From the Hualamphong Railway Station in Bangkok you can travel for around THB 100 to Hua Hin (4 hours and more), several trains run daily. (Timetable)

By bus

  • Bangkok: A bus leaves the southern Sai Tai Mai bus terminal every 20 minutes (THB 200, travel time 3.5 hours). Minibuses start at the Victory Monument (THB 180).
  • One is relatively new Bus service between Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport and Hua Hin. Sales and service at the airport take place at the same counter as for the buses to Pattaya. This bus runs 5 times a day and costs THB 305 per person (as of 2013).

In the street

The taxi from Bangkok to Hua Hin currently costs 2500-3000 Baht (2012). With online pre-booking you can get a taxi from 1900 Baht (Feb. 2013).

By boat

Every day at 8.30 a high-speed ferry leaves in just over two hours Bali shark at Pattaya at the price of 1250 Baht (price Jan. 2017).

mobility

Sawngthaews run on all routes and cost only THB 10. There are also plenty of mopeds, tuk-tuks and taxis. The price should be negotiated beforehand. Many wealthy tourists have meanwhile let the price level rise. Since the city is located in a flat region, the area can also be explored by bike.

Kao Takiab
  • Kao Takiab(เขา ตะเกียบ): This is a mountain near the city. From here you can overlook all of Hua Hin and the beautiful beach. There are also places to eat here, so you can wait for the sunset.
  • Wat Khao Lad(วัด เขา ลั่นทม) - Wat near the Kao Takiab with a 20 meter high Buddha statue.
  • beaches: There is only one beach (หาด หัวหิน)which stretches over the entire length of the city. At the southern end of the city it is interrupted by the Kao Takiab. The southern part is good for swimming. A little further there is the Suan Son beach. It belongs to the army, but you can use it for a small fee.

The night markets (ตลาด กลางคืน หัวหิน) are definitely worth a visit. The offer ranges from T-shirts (approx. THB 300) to antiques. The better known is in the city center and is more tourist-oriented. The one more popular with the Thais is also known as the Grand Market and is located between the Grand Hotel and the Sao Paulo Hospital. However, it is not open on Mondays and Thursdays.

Here, too, you can go to the night markets. You can get a meal here for a dollar or less.

nightlife

If you prefer English-language music, head downtown around the Hyatt hotel.

  • Style - One of the best spots in town and popular with teenagers. The music ranges from hip hop to techno. Thai is played with live music. Most of the guests arrive after 10 p.m. It is often overcrowded.
  • Takeang (J. Gene) Pub, Soi Bintabaht, near the Hilton Hotel.
    - Live rock music with a very talented Thai guitarist named Theb. Recommendable!
  • Bluestation Country Pub, at the intersection of Chomsin Rd. by train.
    - Very popular with the locals, but unknown with the tourists. The in-house excellent band plays Thai Country.

There are many guest houses in this category. There is no need to reserve. The prices start at THB 150. For THB 400 you get very modern and chic rooms with AC and TV.

The local travel agencies offer numerous day trips from one trip to Phetchaburi up to a visit to the national park "300 Mountain Peak National Park“ (Sam Roi Yot) or waterfalls in Kaeng Krachan National Park.
