background

White mussels form a layer of lime

The region is crossed from north to south by the Panamericana, mostly along the coast. Since the Humboldt Current brings cold water and plenty of plankton from south to north, the coastal waters are very rich in fish. At the same time, however, this also means that there is little rain in the interior of the country, and a dry, sandy desert often begins right behind the coastal road. Behind it, there may be fertile regions due to streams from the Andes.

The entire coast is also characterized by the fact that the Nazca plate of the Pacific pushes itself under the South American plate. On the one hand, this leads to strong elevations, so that you can see relatively fresh mussel banks along the streets, on the other hand, this also favors the Volcanism

In this area people from different cultures lived one after the other, e.g. Nazca and Paracas
