Nasca is a city with 50,000 inhabitants in Peru. It is also the name of the world famous lines that have caught the imagination of many people. And it is the name of a long-gone culture that could spin incredibly fine threads of wool, that had a pronounced ancestral cult and that knew how to survive for a long time in the sometimes very inhospitable nature.
getting there
The city of Nasca is located about 450 km south of Lima in the desert coastal strip.

Nasca Lines
This was the center of the pre-Inca Nasca culture. World-famous testimonies are the gigantic Nasca lines carved into the desert soil. Only from the air can the geometric shapes (triangles, trapezoids, spirals) and figures (monkeys, spiders, birds, fish, people) be recognized in their entirety. The largest figure reaches a length of 285 m. Unfortunately, the weather does not always allow you to see these lines by plane.
miscellaneous
The ancient Nasca left other evidence of their high level of culture, e.g. the underground water channels of Cantalloc, the ruins of Cahuachi.
You should definitely visit the museum of Maria Reiche, who researched and documented the lines.

Cheap
- The WalkOn Inn, José María Mejía 108, Nasca. E-mail: [email protected]. A very nice hostal where you feel well cared for. The hostal is not advertised by these annoying smugglers, so it is already at the front. The owner will help you with a lot and also explain the dangers that can lurk in the city. Very nice location and the best thing is enough warm water, which you really learn to appreciate in Peru. I can really recommend it to everyone. Single travelers get a double room and only pay the price for one person. If you call in advance, you will be picked up from the bus station.
