Irbid is the third largest city Jordan and is located in the northwest of the country.

Irbid was called in ancient times Arabella. Today it is the third largest Jordanian city and the capital of the governorate of the same name. Well over 1 million people live in the urban area of Irbid, while in the city itself there are 650,000 on an area of 410 km². The majority are - as in the other cities - refugees from Palestine after Six Day War. The surrounding area is considered to be the most fertile agricultural area in Jordan.
