Island of Hawaii (Big Island) is one of the Hawaiian Islands.

Geographical notes
Geographically, the island of Hawaii is made up of five major volcanoes:
- Kohala - In the north-west, an extinct volcano.
- Mauna Kea (the white mountain) - The tallest mountain in Hawaii, at 4,200m, and often snow-capped in winter. Mauna Kea occupies most of the northern half of the island and is considered an inactive volcano.
- Hualãlai - To the west, dominates the Kailua-Kona area, not active.
- Mauna Loa (the long mountain) - An active volcano that dominates the southern half of the island.
- Kilauea (rising cloud of smoke) - A very active volcano east of the northern part of Mauna Loa.
Due to the continuous eruptions of lava from the Kilauea volcano; it grew by about 2.2 km² from 1983 to 2002.

Urban centers
- Hamakua - Honokaa.
- Hilo - The largest city on the island with about 50,000 inhabitants and the second largest in the archipelago after Honolulu.
- Kohala - Waimea, Waikoloa, Hawi.
- Kona - On the west coast.
- Puna - Pahoa, Keaau.
- Waikoloa - Resort.
- Waimea - Agricultural center with numerous ranches. Among these the Parker Ranch.
