the South Jeolla (jeollanamdo, (전라 남도 / 全羅南道) is a province of South Korea, the most southwest.
The province was formed in 1896 from the old province of Jeolla; until 2005, its capital was Gwangju, until the provincial administration moved further south, to the village of Namak, in Muan County.
Understand
The province is part of the Honam region, bordered to the west by the Yellow Sea, to the north by the province of Jeolla of the North, to the south by the Strait of Jeju, and to the east by the province of South Gyeongsang.
There are nearly 2,000 islands along the coast, three quarters of which are uninhabited. The coast is about 610 kilometers long. Some products from the region, in particular oysters and seaweed, are the most famous of South Korea.
The province is only partially mountainous. The plains along the rivers Seomjin, Yeongsan and Tamjin make it a large attic. The rains are abundant, and contribute to the development of agriculture. The summer here is the hottest on the peninsula, which leads to the production of large quantities of rice, wheat, barley, pulses and potatoes. Vegetables, cotton and fruits are also produced in the province.
A small amount of coal and gold is mined there, and industries are also developing there.
