Kameiros is next Lindos and Ialysus one of the three founding cities that helped the island to fame and recognition in antiquity. The city was completely destroyed in the course of time, an earthquake around 2000 years ago is said to have initiated this destruction. There is only one excavation site left. Nonetheless, a visit to this archaeological site is a good choice.
Even in Kameiros it is not possible to say exactly how the ancient place is written in Latin letters. In addition to Kameiros, the name Kamiros is very popular.
getting there
The best way to get to Kameiros is by car or by bus. Many bus trips stop here. Kameiros is on the west coast. If you are coming from the north on the west coast road, you have to turn inland behind Kalavarde in order to get towards Kameiros.

The ruins themselves are the sight. Take your time to research everything. You can spend a couple of hours here without it getting boring.
Kameiros has a small port called Kameiros Skala. It is definitely worth taking a look here. You should also go to the island from this port Chalki come, a ferry should go once a day.
activities
You should definitely take a tour. This is the only way to understand the structure of the ancient city, which shows many parallels to Lindos. The Acropolis lay over the city, which unfortunately, like the city, has hardly been preserved. People settled around the Acropolis, this was the living area. Working life was located below the living area. Here were both the market and the workshops where precious ceramics were made. In ancient times, Kameiros was a leader in this field. Everything is explained very well on a guided tour. By the way, you have an excellent view from the Acropolis.
kitchen
If you want to eat in Kameiros, you should definitely go to the port. The freshly caught fish is offered in the taverns. It doesn't get any fresher. The preparation has been the same for many years and no tourist has been able to change anything about it. The locals have to like it. A good tip for those who like fish.
