Kassandria lies in the middle of the first finger of Chalkidiki, Kassandra. The place extends over hilly land. It is located on the connecting roads from Kallithea (Halkidiki) and the locality Siviri. The village extends south of the main road, so the main road only passes Kassandria.

Kassandria is a grown place that has been around for a long time. Accordingly, the streets here are very narrow, there are old and new buildings, and every free space is also built on. Due to the proximity of the tourist places Kassandria has lost a lot of flair, because hundreds of tourists flock to the city every day to see it. Nevertheless, a trip to Kassandria is worthwhile, especially if you are in Kallithea, Sani or Siviri is on vacation. It is not far and you can get to Kassandria and back quite cheaply by taxi.

In the street

Kassandria is quite easy to get to by car. On the east coast of Kassandra, the main road runs from north to south. Coming from the north, it is best to take the junction in Kallithea (Halkidiki), the road is better developed than the first signposted road in front of Kallithea. It doesn't take that much either. Coming from the south, take the same road, just turn left in Kallithea. The road more or less leads past Kassandria, in Germany one would say tangent to it.

The bus connections to Kassandria are quite good, of course with the restrictions that you have in the whole Chalkidiki has, the buses are late, there is no timetable, if at all only departure times, the bus does not stop if you do not wave conspicuously, the buses are sometimes very full and so on. If you live near Kassandria, you can also take a taxi. This is far cheaper than in Germany. There are fixed prices for many routes, so you should definitely speak to the driver before starting your journey. You can negotiate better prices. The best way to get to Kassandria is by car, because you are the most flexible. It's best to leave the car behind in the city. The place is very narrow and the street layout is not always straightforward. And you always see more on foot than in the car.

Tourist Attractions

The sight is the place itself and the ruin of a windmill. Here you can see how to live on Kassandra. The plots are all very small, it is densely built up and almost nobody has a garden. When you walk through the streets, you keep asking yourself the questions of how people get children to school, how do they get to work, how does life work here.

There is a small pedestrian zone in Kassandria, which on the one hand is tailored to the local population, here are the taverns, where you can get the simple but delicious Greek cuisine. On the other hand, tourism has not passed the city by. So you know what tourists like to buy and you have set yourself up accordingly.

There is a market on Tuesday. With the car it is then even more difficult to get through the alleys. Similar to the pedestrian zone, the market is divided into two parts. Half is for the locals. Here fresh vegetables, fruit, nuts, legumes and much more are sold, which is what the agriculture of the area gives. It is worth browsing through the stands. They all have a very peculiar flair and are not always as clean as you would imagine in Germany. The other half is for the tourists. Fake clothes are sold here, but there are also fabrics and many other things.

activities

A visit to the market is definitely very attractive. But strolling through the small pedestrian zone is also very nice. You always have to note that you hardly see a soul here between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. In the evening it gets crowded. Here you can spend beautiful Greek evenings.

But also during the day you can experience wonderful hours in Kassandria. Just go for a walk a little outside the town center is really nice. The houses are all very beautiful, you can feel a little bit of Greek life.

shop

The best thing to do is go shopping at the market. You can get the best things here. The vegetables and fruit don't always look as great as they do in German supermarkets, but they taste much better because the farmers have brought them straight from the field. You can hardly have it fresher. The supermarkets are on the outskirts. Here one is no longer designed for tourists. It is very exciting to see what the Greek families need for a living here.

Not surprisingly, Kassandria has simple but good Greek cuisine. There is also the famous pizzeria for the tourists, but Greek cuisine is the rule. The taverns are in the center of the village. Unfortunately I didn't see a single tavern further outside. Maybe you should look for something as the tavernas that are in the suburbs tend to have the better food.

nightlife

The nightlife in Kassandria is in Kassandria the Greek way. Sitting in the taverns, discussing and drinking red wine. Greek music is hot, but not that loud unless it's a celebration. If you really want to have night life, you have to continue to Kallithea. Here you can have the night life until the early hours of the morning.

Finding a job here is very difficult. Because the place is only marginally involved in tourism, there are no jobs where foreign languages ​​are required. In winter you can be lucky in agriculture. In addition, overall unemployment in Greece is a very big problem.

As in all of Greece, crime hardly plays a role in Kassandria. Imported crime hardly plays a role either, because the place is a bit away from the tourist strongholds. The basic rules should be observed, opportunity makes thieves.

There is a list of doctors who speak foreign languages ​​on Kassandra. This is the list to stick to when you get sick. If you have little or no knowledge of Greek, a visit to the Greek doctor makes little sense.
