Understand
The capital of Nepal contrasts with other Asian or world capitals in the sense that its size and the number of its inhabitants make it a relatively calm city on a human scale. All traffic can be done easily on foot.

Buy
Although touristy, Thamel and its many shops is probably one of the best places to be sure to find souvenirs to bring back from Nepal.
- 1 Asan Tole – A large bazaar where you can find many everyday products to buy, including spices.
Eat
Nepalese food is close to Indian with the indestructible Thali here on sale for 80 rupees, or even momos and other chowmein.
Cheap
A multitude of small restaurants and restaurants frequented mainly by Nepalese exist in the city. You are therefore free to let yourself be guided through the many streets and dead ends in search of a very typical address. Do not hesitate to go out a little (or to move away from the main roads) of the tourist district of Thamel and you will quickly find something to eat at bargain prices.
Middle class
Middle-class restaurants are plentiful in the district of Thamel especially. They are mainly frequented by tourists and offer dishes between 150 and 300 rupees.
- 1 Delima Garden Cafe (Cross a small alley to get to this cafe.) – In the pleasant and calm setting of a flowered interior courtyard.
- 2 Roadhouse Cafe – Pizzeria.
Luxury
For gourmets, several Japanese restaurants offer, in the district of Thamel, a food of choice, expensive and not very nutritious.
Have a drink / Go out
- Chikusa Cafe[1], Jyatha, Thamel - A small cafe with the best coffee you can find in Nepal, the sandwiches, pancakes and strawberry lassis are very good.
Housing
The majority of hotels are now located in the district of Thamel, the most touristic. Try to choose a hotel on the edge of this area in order to enjoy the peace of the city (near Paknajol for example).
There are also a few hotels near Durbar Square, most of which closed in the late 1980s with the decline of the hippie era.

Communicate
Internet
Internet cafes offer prices between 10 and 35 rupees per hour. But beware, power cuts and network saturation will often be part of the game ...
Phone
All over the city, generally in the same places as Internet cafes, you can make calls locally or abroad. Be careful, however, of the sometimes very significant price differences and the prices sometimes charged at the head of the customer. Do not hesitate to negotiate and make several addresses before picking up the handset.
Shops where telephone calls can be made abroad generally bear the inscription ISD on their storefront.
Postal mail
If you wish, it is possible to send mail through the Nepalese postal service. To do this, go to a post office to get stamps or buy them at the same time as postcards in shops offering them, but be careful, some sellers invent an additional tax to charge stamps more expensive than their original price!
