Map of Kinlochleven

background

Kinlochleven is located at the end of the deeply inland Loch Leven fjord and was created as a small settlement at the mouth of the water-rich River Leven. The place grew into a small town with the aluminum smelter opened in 1907, which uses the topographical advantages of the place, deep-sea port for the delivery of bauxite and the mountainous terrain for the creation of a large reservoir, the Blackwater Reservoir for cheap electricity. Strongly characterized by uniform workers' settlements in row houses, surrounded by a great landscape, but not a particularly characterful place. Since the hut was closed in the 1980s, the place has relied heavily on tourism.
