Dump is a Swiss Community in Lötschental of the canton Valais and is 1,376 meters above sea level. Politically, the community belongs to the Westlich district Raron.

background

With 367 inhabitants, Kippel is the second largest town in the Lötschental after Wiler. The village lies between the two neighboring communities Wiler and Ferden. Kippel is also home to the parish church of the valley and the village is considered the cultural capital because of the many beautiful ancient buildings. The community is home to the only old people's home in the entire Lötschberg area. Kippel is embedded in a beautiful natural landscape between the Valais Alps.

From Bern you can get to Kippel every hour in a good 2 hours and 30 minutes. From Bern with the Lötschberger RegioExpress in the direction of Brig to Goppenstein through the Lötschberg tunnel.

From Goppenstein there is a bus to Kippel.Timetables

In the street

From Zurich via Bern-Spiez to Kandersteg. There car transport through the Lötschberg tunnel to Goppenstein. From there it is only a short distance on the connecting road through the Lötschental to Kippel. From Goppenstein there is also a main road in the opposite direction to Gampel-Steg and other areas in the Valais.

Cable car

To the east, outside the village, in the municipality of Wiler, is the valley station of the cable car to the Laucheralp. A chair lift leads from the Laucheralp to the Gandegg.

Postbus

A post bus line leads through the valley on the main road. The Postbus runs every hour.

Tourist Attractions

In the old part of the village you can still find a number of beautiful wooden houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. These are often provided with inscriptions. A walk through the village is definitely worth it.

Kippel Church
  • Parish Church of Saint Martin. It is worth visiting the parish church of Sankt Martin, which was built in 1740-1742 and renovated in 1977/78. It still has a Renaissance tabernacle and a high altar from 1747.
  • Ossuary. The small chapel stands in the parish cemetery and is a preserved part of the previous church. Inside is the representation of Our Lady. The ceiling is decorated with various inscriptions.
  • Lötschental Museum, Museum path 1, Kippel. Tel.: 41 27 939 18 71. The museum presents the alpine traditions and customs and includes around 6000 objects. The museum is located in a large house in the center of the village.Open: July to October every day except Mon 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., December 26th to March 31st every Wed, Thu Fri 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Outside the opening times on request. In July and August every Wednesday at 5 p.m. public guided tours (free). Registration required by 3 p.m. on the same day.
