Security
The security situation in Kyrgyzstan is tense due to political conflicts in neighboring countries, especially in the Fergana Valley on the border with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The country is also in a risk area for earthquakes.
Respect
The penalties for drug use and drug smuggling are very severe. Before 1997, homosexual intercourse was punishable in Kyrgyzstan and not yet widely accepted.
