Ko Mak - Ko Mak

Ko Mak(Thai: เกาะ หมาก) is an island in the province Stepped in the southeast of Thailand.

Ko Mak is located in the Gulf of Thailand and is still a very original island that is rarely visited by tourists. Not like her big sister Ko Chang. The island still offers a real Robinson feeling and can delight with "still" deserted beaches. There are still pristine reefs and beautiful diving spots around the island.

The rainy season is from April to October. In the rest of the year there is little rain. The climate is tropical. During the rainy season it does not rain all day, but it is cloudy and rain showers can occur frequently.

getting there

  • By plane from Bangkok to Stepped. Bangkok Airways offers flights several times a day. The flight takes about 50 minutes. From Stepped you use the speedboat, which takes you to Ko Mak in about 55 minutes.
  • By bus from Bangkok to Trat. The journey takes about 5-6 hours and is arduous. But very adventurous.

mobility

There is no public transport on Ko Mak. The only option is to rent a motorcycle or to explore the island on foot.

Sandy beach

The main attraction of the island are the picture-perfect beaches and there are some beautiful temples, some of which are a bit hidden.

There are no water sports such as jet skiing or the like. Some resorts offer canoes for rent. There are several diving schools that offer day or half day dives.

With the exception of a bar next to the Ko Mak Resort, there is no nightlife on Ko Mak, which is not bad either.

Since 2012, the Thai break has taken place on the island for two weeks every year in March. During this time there is an event every day at different locations and a predominantly young audience on Ko Mak.

The island is very safe. Thefts are hardly known. Nevertheless, you should lock your bungalow. If you go into the jungle, you may come across a snake or a poisonous millipede.
