IN Poland at the junction of two provinces - Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, just next to Tricity lies a little known and unique region. The proximity of the sea, countless lakes, Bory Tucholskie and over 400 km of charming bicycle routes guarantee a good rest.

Picturesque windmills, nature and interesting traditions delight.

Kociewie is an ethnic and cultural region in Gdańsk Pomerania, characterized by a distinct dialect and traditions.

This is where the rivers meet Wda, Vistula and Wierzyca, offering, among other things, great kayaking.

The treasure of the region are remarkable monuments and cultivated customs.

We will start our tour from the Vistula river Tczew - one of the oldest cities in Gdańsk Pomerania. It owes its development to Sambor II, who reigned in these lands in the 13th century, and to the Order of St. John. A characteristic building is the parish church of Exaltation of the Holy Cross from the 13th century with its huge tower and beautiful baroque interior.

Then we will visit The Vistula Museum constituting a branch of the Central Maritime Museum in Gdansk. If time permits, let's see the historic building of the Maritime School of 1920. It's worth it, because it was the first such facility in Poland!

On the list of great monuments of construction engineering, next to the Eiffel Tower, the Tczew bridge over the Vistula was placed, which in 1857 was one of the longest bridges in the world at that time.

Another city on the map of Kociewie is Starogard Gdański, which is the capital of the region. In the Museum of the Kociewie Region, we can find out a lot about the history of the city, as well as the Kociewie embroidery and local dialect. The museum is housed in two towers that used to be part of the city walls. While in Starogard, we should also visit the beautiful, eclectic palace of the Wiechert family, which at the end of the 19th century owned the local water mills and developed the centuries-old tradition of milling there.

Let's also go to the historic town square, where in the middle there is a neo-Renaissance town hall from the beginning of the 19th century.

Then we will visit one of the Old Town restaurants to try local delicacies such as Kociewie chicken pate or Kociewie white cabbage soup.

Being in Starogard Gdański, be sure to go for a walk in the footsteps of Kazimierz Deyna - the great footballer of the Polish national team, who began his sports career in this city.

Let's also visit the town Anger and an unusual monument and a showcase of the city, which is the restored Teutonic castle. We will also see the Marysieńki Palace, built by King Jan III Sobieski in 1679 as a gift for his wife, Maria Kazimiera.

In turn, in Pelplin you can admire the gothic, post-Cistercian monastery complex and the original copy of the so-called Gutenberg's Bible.

At the end of the Kociewie tour, let's take a look at the beautiful Tuchola Forest and Shines, where Balabun's Day, i.e. the Potato Feast in Kociewie, is sumptuously celebrated!
