Komodo is an island in Indonesia. She is one of the Small Sunda Islands and is known for the huge Komodo dragons. To protect these animals, the Komodo National Park (Indonesian Taman Nasional Komodo created, it includes the islands Komodo, Padar and Rinca as well as around two dozen smaller islands. The national park has been on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Komodo can only be reached by water, but there are no regular ferry connections. Visitors therefore come either by boats from neighboring islands, or they are cruise tourists who are brought ashore in tender boats.

Visitors are only allowed to walk on marked hiking trails in the area of the national park, and only in the company of local guides. The only exception is the immediate vicinity of the pier, there are small shops and public toilets.

- The possibility of your own activities is quite limited. First and foremost it is the observation of monitor lizards. The guides pretty much know where the animals are. During a guided tour they explain the life of the monitor lizards and you will almost certainly get to see a few specimens towards the end. Sometimes you can see mane deer, which are part of their prey.
- Swimming, diving, snorkeling or relaxing on the beach: boat trips to one of the pink beaches are offered. These got their color from the red lime of dead corals. Otherwise these beaches are considered natural. This is true with regard to the infrastructure, but not with regard to the civilized garbage.

There is currently no tourist accommodation in the area of the nature park. Most tourists are day visitors anyway. For those guests who have come by boat, there is the option of staying overnight on board.

Whether the story is true that a tourist bitten by a monitor lizard was found dead days later, cannot be traced. In any case, it is old enough and has come down to us in several detailed versions. As for the human inhabitants of the island, the island is considered safe.
In the area of the jetty there are quite a few children who have a certain vocabulary of foreign languages. They use this vigorously to beg, or they try to sell some plastic lizards as souvenirs. Otherwise, these children can use whatever is offered to them, and they also clearly show their interests. But as far as I know, they don't steal.
