corfu, Corfu, Greek: Kerkira, is part of the Ionian archipelago in the far west of Greece. It is just off the coast of Albania. Due to its western location, the island is very green by Greek standards.
The island is difficult to divide into regions. There is a (social) nature, near Corfu town and a division between north and south. The middle and north can, perhaps due to tourist influences, but also varying nature and environment, be divided into: The northeast, with villages such as Kato Korakiana, Sokraki, more northwards Barbati and Kasiopi. The north with villages like Acharavi and Sidari and the west with Palaiokastritsa and Pelekas. However, the south should not be skipped! Changing landscape with picturesque villages such as Agios Mattheos. The 'wild' Kavos is a long drive away in the southern tip.
