Kunduz is a provincial capital in the north Afghanistan.

background

The place became known as the stationing place of Bundeswehr troops who defended "Germany at the Hindukush" until 2014.

The center of the city is the circular square around the Chowk from which the main roads lead off in the four cardinal directions. The south leads Weyalat St. Goes north Bandar-e Emam, those further outside to Sakar Imam Sahib becomes.

The inner city suffers from heavy air pollution from uncleaned car exhaust fumes, coal fires and dust. The open drainage channels serve as rubbish bins for the residents, and the blood of animals slaughtered in the open street is also let into them, which together leads to a strong odor nuisance.

getting there

By plane

Although there is a small airport near Kunduz (36 ° 39 ′ 54 ″ N, 68 ° 54 ′ 39 ″ E), international connections can be reached from Mazar-e-Sharif.

By bus

Bookings for buses to Kabul can be made on the main road to the west, at the height of the Haji Torabaz Khan GH on the opposite side.

In the street

From the "bus station" 6 km outside Mazar-i-Sharif there are collective taxis (500 Afg. P. P .; 5-6 h).

Out Kabul and Mazar can be reached via the highway that Pol-e Khomri crossed. Taxi connections from Kunduz in the direction of Mazar and Kabul run from an inner courtyard, between the booking offices for the buses in the direction of Kabul.

Collective taxis direction Shir Khan Bandar / Panji Poyon border crossing (Tajik border) drive at the gas station within sight of the fortress at the Bandar-e Emam St. from. The fare in a full taxi is 80 Afg. per person - under no circumstances should you accept surcharges for luggage that does not block a seat. For single trips, the waiting drivers initially ask for 500 Afg., Which with patience and a little waiting time for 400 Afg., In times of low traffic soon also for 200 Afg. sinks.

The local traffic is operated by 2-stroke Tuk-tuks concerned.

nightlife

The city dies soon after sunset, at the latest 8 p.m.

accommodation

Years of attendance by visitors on official missions have made the city's hoteliers complacent and expensive. As of Oct. 2014, the offered accommodations are about a third to a half overpriced in view of the quality offered. The hotels mentioned in travel guides Lapis Lazuli and Kunduz have closed.

  • Haji Torabaz Khan Guest House (formerly: 7 Days GH), Jabd el Kulali (next to Bank Milli, right at the intersection of the main road to the west; about 400 m from Chowk.). Tel.: (0)777301111. Price: US $ 50 p.p., negotiable on 2000 Afg; m. F.
Until 2009 with German management, since then clearly run down by tenants, the owner family strives for better service. Large rooms with clean bathrooms that occasionally have lukewarm water. Some rooms with satellite TV (only oriental channels). The inner courtyard is probably the only piece of well-tended lawn in the city. A pool started in 2007 was never completed.
  • Ariana Hotel & Wedding Hall. Tel.: (0)70 274712. Price: US $ 20 (non-negotiable).
Room above the said banquet hall, noisy, partly without a window. Completely neglected, cleaning is only done on request, even after a change of guests, even then clean sheets are not available. Sanitary facilities typical of the country. Hot water boiler and TV are not working accessories. Warm water, even in a bucket, is not available. Completely inadequate price / performance ratio. Mention only because it is mentioned in the most popular travel guide with praise.

Stay safe and healthy

Probably more dangerous than the occasional attacks,[1] which increased again after the withdrawal of the German troops, are accidents when crossing roads. There was one until Oct 3, 2015 Pasteur-Hospital that was bombed by the American Air Force in an operation that was apparently a war crime.[2]

Practical advice

  • City Net Cafe (formerly: Haqkhawa Internet), Bandar-e Emam St. (after the fourth larger intersection from Chowk to the north, the second house with blue-glazed facade; on the 1st floor). Open: during the day.Price: 60 Afg./h.

in the Communications Center, locally too Radio station called, on Jada-i Mokhbarat, there should also be a post office counter.
