La Quiaca is a city in the extreme north Argentina on the border to Bolivia. It has about 15,000 inhabitants and forms a metropolitan area together with the Bolivian one Villazón.

La Quiaca is most likely for travelers because of the transport connections and as a starting point to the old and original mountain villages Yavi, Santa Catalina and Santa Victoria Interesting. In contrast to the lively Villazón, the city itself looks sleepy and quiet, the 15,000 inhabitants are hard to guess.
When traveling to Bolivia or from Bolivia to Argentina, you must cross the border on foot or by taxi (unless you have your own car).

By bus
Of San Salvador de Jujuy There are regular buses to La Quiaca. For most lines from the rest of the country you have to change trains in this city, but booking through is possible without any problems. You can also book directly to Bolivia from some cities.
By train
The railway line to La Quiaca, once a remarkable engineering masterpiece, is ailing and decommissioned.
In the street
The Ruta Nacional 9 from San Salvador de Jujuy is now continuously tarred and in good condition. However, the landslides should be noted when it rains in summer, which can lead to delays.
