The Landmannalaugar lies between Vatnajökull and Mýrdalsjökull im southwest of Iceland
background
Landmannalaugar is an area with colorful mountains, a warm river and "the hot springs of the people of the country". The red color of the mountains indicates iron content, yellow indicates sulfur and turquoise indicates silica.
The nearby solfataras of Brennisteinsalda are worth seeing. The many viewpoints and the adjacent lava fields are also worthwhile. Everything is connected with hiking trails and signposted. When the weather is good, you have a beautiful view of the entire area from Mount Bláhnúkur.
You should definitely have a day.
preparation
Groceries should be obtained beforehand, as there is only one small kiosk in Landmannalaugar.

- From the hut to the lava tongue Laugahraun. The path continues to the solfataras below the mountain Brennisteinsalda. The circular route now goes through the Grænagil Gorge and then back to the campsite. However, it should be marked with yellow stakes Laugavegur follow a bit between the eastern side of the and the lava tongue. There a small, unmarked path branches off to the summit of the Brennisteinsalda.
- Bláhnjúkur (940 m) with a great view, but only with reasonably good weather. The ascent takes about 1 hour.
