Laufen-Uhwiesen is a Swiss Municipality in the canton Zurich, it is adjacent to the Rhine Falls in the south.

background

The community consists of the three districts, Run ZH (Laufen Castle is located on the southern bank of the Rhine Falls and towers above the Rhine Falls scenery), Uhwiesen (located on the southern slope of the Cholfirst) and the Nohl settlement downstream of the Rhine Falls on the right bank.

The name comes from the Rhine Falls, these insurmountable rapids were historically referred to as "Grosser Laufen", in contrast to the "Kleiner Laufen", the rapids Laufenburg and the "Koblenzer Laufen".
