Laufen-Uhwiesen is a Swiss Municipality in the canton Zurich, it is adjacent to the Rhine Falls in the south.

The community consists of the three districts, Run ZH (Laufen Castle is located on the southern bank of the Rhine Falls and towers above the Rhine Falls scenery), Uhwiesen (located on the southern slope of the Cholfirst) and the Nohl settlement downstream of the Rhine Falls on the right bank.

The name comes from the Rhine Falls, these insurmountable rapids were historically referred to as "Grosser Laufen", in contrast to the "Kleiner Laufen", the rapids Laufenburg and the "Koblenzer Laufen".

The castle was bought by the city of Zurich around 1544 and heavily modified. In 1944 it was taken over by the canton of Zurich, which operates a restaurant and a youth hostel here.
